Buying, Selling and Planning Your Collier County License

Before buying a liquor license in Collier County

Start with the proposed address and the way your business will sell alcohol. A restaurant serving drinks with meals, a bar, and a package store need different licensing reviews. Liquor License Brokers can help you organize the transaction and application requirements before you commit to a license purchase.

Separate state licensing from local land use

Florida’s Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (ABT) handles state beverage licensing. Local zoning is a separate review. Ask the planning authority responsible for your Collier County address whether the proposed alcohol use is allowed and whether additional approvals are needed.

Collier County lists an Alcoholic Beverage Distance Waiver application. That does not mean every business needs a waiver. Check whether separation requirements apply to your specific site before budgeting for an application or signing an unconditional lease.

Compare your licensing options

  • Beer and wine: Florida offers consumption-on-premises and package-sales licenses without a numerical quota. Choose the privileges that match your operation.
  • Full liquor service: A quota license may be purchased from an existing owner. Confirm the license’s county, status, and approved use before proceeding.
  • Qualifying restaurants: A special restaurant license can be an alternative to a quota purchase, but eligibility and ongoing operating requirements must be met. A restaurant description alone is not enough.

Questions to resolve before closing

  1. What is the exact premises address and which authority reviews its zoning?
  2. Will alcohol be consumed on site, sold in sealed containers, or both?
  3. Does the seller’s license match the county and privileges your business needs?
  4. What application, premises, and ownership documents remain outstanding?
  5. What conditions must be satisfied before the transaction closes?

A statewide search result is not proof that a liquor license can be moved to your Collier County location. ABT’s guidance says liquor licenses cannot be transferred out of their county of original issuance.
